CBSE Question Paper Generator from NCERT Chapters
SmartPrep CBSE builds board-pattern question papers from the NCERT chapter itself. A teacher picks the class, subject and NCERT chapter, chooses the question types and marks, and gets a board-pattern paper with an answer key, grounded in the text of the chapter itself, ready to print as a PDF or assign online. Any question can be swapped for an alternate or edited, and new questions can be generated into the paper one at a time.
How it works
- 1
Pick the chapter
Choose class (1–12), subject and one or more NCERT chapters. 1,000+ chapters from 79 NCERT textbooks are already indexed.
- 2
Set the blueprint
Choose question types, number of questions, marks and difficulty. The Bloom’s taxonomy mix is shown live as you go.
- 3
Swap, add and edit
Don’t like a question? Click Suggest Alternate for replacements of the same type and marks, or Add New Question to generate another one on a topic, type, marks and difficulty you choose. Edit or delete any question by hand.
- 4
Print or assign
Export a print-ready PDF with your school’s branding and an answer key, or assign it to a class online in two clicks.
What you get
Grounded in NCERT
Questions are generated from the indexed chapter text, not from a model’s general knowledge, so they stay inside the syllabus.
All CBSE formats
MCQ, fill in the blank, short answer, long answer, case study, assertion–reason and source-based questions.
Alternate questions on demand
Suggest Alternate first offers matching questions of the same type and marks from SmartPrep’s question bank, sorted by quality, and writes a fresh one from the chapter when none fit.
Generate new questions
Add a question to any section by giving the topic, type, marks and difficulty, plus optional instructions such as “use a real-life cricket example”.
A unique paper for every student
Turn on Generate Unique Quizzes and each student gets their own version: same topic and Bloom’s mix, different questions, numbers and passages, so answers can’t be copied across the room.
Answer keys included
Every paper comes with answers and marking points teachers can use to grade.
Your own material too
Upload a PDF (notes, a reference book chapter) and generate from that instead.
Who it is for
- CBSE subject teachers, Classes 1–12
- Academic coordinators preparing unit tests and pre-boards
- Schools standardising papers across sections
Good to know
- Built for CBSE and NCERT only; ICSE and state-board textbooks are not indexed.
- Teachers should review every paper before use. The generator drafts; the teacher decides.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best question paper generator for CBSE?
Look for one that works from the NCERT chapter text, supports CBSE competency-based formats (case study, assertion–reason, source-based), and produces answer keys. SmartPrep CBSE does all three for Classes 1–12 and also lets you assign and grade the paper in the same platform.
Can I generate a CBSE question paper from a specific NCERT chapter?
Yes. In SmartPrep CBSE you select the class, subject and exact NCERT chapter (or several chapters), and the questions are generated from that chapter’s content.
Can I replace or regenerate a single question?
Yes. Suggest Alternate replaces one question with alternatives of the same type and marks, first from SmartPrep’s question bank and otherwise newly written from the chapter. Add New Question generates an extra question on the topic, type, marks and difficulty you pick, with optional instructions. The rest of the paper stays as it is.
Can every student get a different version of the same test?
Yes. With Generate Unique Quizzes, SmartPrep creates one variant per student on the same topic and Bloom’s distribution but with different questions, examples and numbers, which makes copying much harder.
Does it create answer keys and printable PDFs?
Yes. Each paper exports as a print-ready PDF with an answer key, and can carry your school’s branding.
Is the SmartPrep question paper generator free?
No. SmartPrep CBSE is sold to schools and priced per student per year. Schools can book a free demo at smartprepcbse.com.
